Notes on barriers and accessibility at the Pride Event Göttingen 2023
We strive to recognize barriers at the CSD, to actively reduce them or to prevent them from arising in the first place. Unfortunately this is not always possible. We want to point out the barriers at the CSD here and show where we have made an effort to remove or reduce them.
Information on barriers at the CSD demonstration:
- It is possible to move around with a wheelchair on the demonstration. There are few physical barriers for wheelchairs on the demo route. The easiest path is on the street.
- The demo route is 2 kilometres long.
- There are no guidance systems for people with visual impairments on the demo route.
- There will be people who can support people with visual impairments on the demo route.
- Loud music will be played at certain points in the demonstration.
- There will be a more quiet area in the demonstration.
- People should keep their distance during the demonstration. Nonetheless, people might come closer.
- Many people come together at the demonstration. It might get crowded.
- People are not required to wear a mask at the demonstration (but we ask them to wear one).
- Speeches and announcements at the demonstration are usually in German.
- Speeches and announcements at the demonstration might be difficult to understand.
Information on barriers at the street festival:
- The street fair is wheelchair accesible.
- Lowered curbs will be marked with pink chalk on the floor.
- A barrier-free toilet is available at the CSD street festival.
- The speeches at the street festival will be translated into German Sign Language.
- Some speeches are available on paper. You can ask for them at the stage.
- There are only a few seating options at the CSD Street Festival.
- Loud music will be played at the street festival.
- People are supposed to keep their distance at the street festival. Nevertheless, it might get crowded.
- Many people come together at the CSD.
- People are not required to wear a mask at the street festival (but we encourage visitors to wear a mask).
- Speeches and announcements at the street festival are usually in spoken German.
- Speeches and announcements at the street festival can be difficult to understand.
Our measures to reduce barriers and increase accessibility:
- If you need support for the demo route or the street festival, you can borrow a folding wheelchair and/or find a supporting person. Contact us via kontakt@csd-goettingen.de if you’d like to make use of that. If you want to use this service, please come to the “Statue Verbundenheit” at the Hiroshimaplatz (statue of three people holding hands) at 12:45 on Saturday 26th of August.
- The speeches at the street festival will be translated into German Sign Language.
- Some speeches are available on paper. You can ask for them at the stage.
- There will be a quiet zone at the street fair. There you can find some rest, if you need to. You can also find
- Snacks and water
- Earplugs and sound protection earphones
- Small tents, if you need some space
- People to talk to (they are wearing pink vests)
- Tools to reduce stimulus or help you cope when you’re overwhelmed, for example: chili candy and sour drops, stimming toys, ammoniac substance to smell, fragrance oils, massage balls, sleeping masks
- Phone numbers and info material on consultation and support services when you are in need.
